Would an EV actually
cut your bills?

Every EV savings claim is based on someone else's usage. We run your real half-hourly smart-meter data through every major EV tariff — and against your petrol costs — to give you one number that's actually yours.

The 30-second rough answer

What a year of driving costs you today — versus the same miles with an EV. Typical-household averages; the free report swaps them for your own smart-meter data.

Adjust the assumptions

Potential annual saving with an EV

£—

Assumes overnight home charging (off-peak smart-tariff rate of 7p/kWh — e.g. EDF GoElectric 6.99p, Octopus Intelligent Go 7p, July 2026), your inputs above, and excludes standing-charge differences. Public charging, real usage shape and window fit change the number — that's what the full report checks.

Three steps

How it works

1

Share your usage, your way

Octopus customers paste a read-only API key. Everyone else connects the free Bright app or uploads a CSV — we walk you through it. About five minutes, any supplier.

2

We simulate your EV

Your mileage and car choice become realistic overnight charging sessions layered on your actual half-hourly usage — including smart tariffs that cheapen your whole house while the car charges.

3

One clear report

Your projected bill on each EV tariff, what you'd save against petrol, and which tariff wins for your household — with the working shown.

No surprises

Your data, handled properly

Read-only

An API key or meter consent can only read usage — never change your account or tariff.

Delete-after-report

During the pilot your consumption data is deleted once your report is sent, unless you ask us to keep monitoring.

Never sold

If we ever make money, it's from optional referral links and a pro tier — disclosed in the report itself.

Independent

Not owned by or affiliated with any energy supplier. We only win if the numbers are right.

Before you ask

Questions people ask

I'm not with Octopus — does this work for me?

Yes. British Gas, E.ON Next, OVO, EDF and ScottishPower customers can share data via the free Bright app (which reads your smart meter with your consent) or a CSV export from your supplier. You don't need to switch supplier to get your report — though the report may tell you it's worth it.

I don't have a smart meter.

The personalised report needs half-hourly smart-meter data. Without one we can still estimate from your annual usage — join the waitlist and say so when we email you.

Is this financial or energy advice?

No — it's an information tool. We show what your bills would have been on each tariff using your own historical usage and clearly-stated assumptions. Tariff availability and prices change; always check the supplier's current terms before switching.

What does it cost?

Nothing during the pilot. We may add referral links (disclosed) and a paid ongoing-monitoring tier later.
